Ups and Downs

For a majority of the day, Colin has been fighting a nasty fever. But, like everything else, in traditional Colin fashion and style, he figured out his way to battle the blaze.

When we called in at 6AM, we were told that Colin did spike a fever in the middle of the night, at a whopping 103.8F. A nasty temperature to say the least, but the comforting reassurance from the nurses and doctors gave us some level of confidence that it would not last long.

After a couple attempts at Tylenol and Advil, they simply did not have enough boost to bring the temperature down. At the same time, an antibiotic was started, just in the occurance that Colin was developing some sort of infection.

Going back to the reassurances received after his surgery Monday, the doctors did tell us that it is not uncommon for children to spike a nasty fever following this type of surgery. At times, it does indicate an infection developing, but most of the time, it is the body's natural reaction to the surgery.

Cultures were taken and we are awaiting the results, which should come back early AM Thursday.

After another round of convincing Colin that sit-ups were still not necessary, but keeping the ventilator tube in was still necessary, we decided to grab some well deserved dinner. As we left, a different antibiotic was introduced to hopefully provide the necessary relief to his fever, which was still at 101F.

When we arrived back to the hospital about 90 minutes later, we found a very restful little boy that had a normal temperature, all vitals were good, and he looked content. The evening nurse was able to give him a nice sponge bath, change all his sheets and gave "His Highness" a new set of comfy hospital jammies.
