As we all know, Colin does not like to do anything according to schedule. What was anticipated as a routine procedure turned into a change in schedule.
With Mom and Dad sitting anxiously in the waiting room for the results of Colin's scope and planned downsizing of his ventilator tube, we were greeted by Dr. Cotton approximately 15 minutes after the procedure started.
"All looks good...airway is nice and open...." After a rather long and seemingly endless pause by Dr. Cotton, he continued, "and we took him off the ventilator and he is doing just fine."
Upon arriving back in Colin's PICU room, even the nurses and resident physicians were a bit surprised (but very happy) to see Colin being brought back in without a ventilator.
For about an hour, Colin was fighting off the remaining anesthesia and coughing hard. He was coherent enough to spit like a baseball player when asked to do so.
The next couple of days will be a real rough ride. The doctors have started the process of taking Colin off of his heavy sedatives. This will take a few days to accomplish as he will be going through a drug withdraw.
Another scope of his airway is scheduled for the next two Mondays.
Please continue your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes. They are proof positive that they are working!

What a beautiful sight!! Will keep praying for Colin especially the next few days as he eases off his medications. He looks great!! It is a miracle. Hang in there Mom and Dad. Hopefully you'll be home sooner than you thought.
