Fever Takes an Early 2 - 1 Lead in Day Four

After rallying to beat Team Fever late last night, the Fever came swinging out of the gate early in Day Four.

On our early 6AM phone call to the hospital, we were told that Colin had spiked another fever in the range of 101F to 102F. He continues to be on the antibiotics given to him and is receiving Tylenol/Advil as needed to quench the fever.

In listening in on the physicians' rounds this morning at 9:00, all cultures taken yesterday show no signs of infection, which is a good thing. The doctors are concurring that the fever is a result of the healing process and not any sort of infection. "We typically see these types of fevers from those that have gone through the LTP surgery and were trached before hand. From a PICU standpoint, we take the conservative route with fevers to ensure that no infection has started," said the lead Critical Care Physician of the PICU.

Throughout today, the plan is to continue to monitor and control the fever. From a comfort level standpoint, Colin remains comfortable as the doctors and nurses have found the right balance of medication to keep him settled.

In the above picture, you will notice the blue sleeves on Colin's arms. Well, Himself is still flexing his muscles enough that he was able to manipulate the restraints enough to bend his elbows just enough to be able to get near his ventilator tube. The blue sleeves, are comfortable, but keep Colin from bending his arms. The sleeves are taken off every so often to give him a nice stretch and some to air to his arms.
